Flydubai has transported more than 137 million passengers since its launch in June 2009, expanding its network to more than 140 destinations across 58 countries and cementing its position as one of the Gulf’s most prominent airlines.

The milestone, announced this week, underscores the carrier’s role in enhancing air connectivity between Dubai and regional and global markets. Over 17 years, flydubai has launched more than 100 destinations that previously lacked direct flights to Dubai or were not served by a UAE national airline, supporting trade and tourism ties.

Last year, flydubai operated approximately 126,604 flights and took delivery of 12 new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 97 aircraft with an average age of 5.5 years. The airline also retired three next-generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft and returned them to leasing companies as part of its fleet modernisation programme.

Eight next-generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft were upgraded during the year, bringing the total number of upgraded aircraft in the fleet to 25 by year-end. The modernisation effort reflects flydubai’s strategy of maintaining a young, fuel-efficient fleet as it continues to open routes to underserved markets.

The carrier’s growth trajectory aligns with Dubai’s broader aviation ambitions. With Dubai International consistently ranking among the world’s busiest international airports, low-cost carriers like flydubai play a critical role in connecting secondary cities and emerging markets to the emirate’s business and tourism infrastructure.

Industry analysts note that flydubai’s focus on previously unserved routes — particularly in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and East Africa — has opened new corridors for trade and investment, complementing the long-haul networks of Emirates and other Gulf carriers.
